When trying to lose weight, we tend to focus on the diet. However, exercise is just as important. Not only does exercise help us burn calories but it helps us tone muscles. We don’t just end up seeing lower numbers on the scales, but look and feel amazing at the same time.
But one exercise is not like another. There are certain exercises that are just better for weight loss than others. They burn and tone at the same time. Here’s the best six exercises that you need to do for weight loss.
These tend to be used within military circles but they are being added to various high intensity workouts and programs. That’s because they are just so effective at what they do.
Burpees incorporate both strength training and cardio together. You do press-ups while also burning energy through your jumps. They’re not easy, though. You may want to focus on building your press-up abilities first. You can cheat on the burpees while you do that by remove the press-up element and just jumping yourself down to the ground into the press-up position and then back up.
Start by standing upright with your feet shoulder-width apart. Do a squat and then lower right down to the floor. Do a press-up and then jump back up into the squat position before jumping in the air.
That’s just one repetition. You’ll need to do this at least 10 times. Take a 30-60 second break and then do another 10 burpees. You want to do this exercise three times at least, but you’ll feel it after the first repetition!
#5. Jumping Lunges
Lunges are good for toning the thighs and butt, but jumping lunges are better for weight loss. Like with the burpees, you add both strength and cardio into the same exercise.
If you haven’t mastered lunges yet, work on them first. It will take some time if you’ve never done them before. You don’t want your knees going over your toes on the front leg, and you want to get your body as low to the ground as possible without your knee touching it.
To do the jumping lunges, you just jump to switch the positioning of your feet. It really is that simple in terms of theory—it’s just the practical that’s hard work. It’s so worth it!
Do the lunges for a minute and have a 30-60 second break in between. You need to do this for three minutes of lunges at least.
You’ve likely heard of the squat and you know about the lunge, but what about the squat-lunge? Squats are powerful for weight loss, but a jumping squat is far better. Remember that you want to get the cardio in there to burn some extra calories.
Instead of just squatting, jumping, and then squatting again, try landing the jump into a lunge position. Jump back up and land back in the squat position. Repeat this for a minute. You’ll work out your full lower body, while getting your heart racing!
#3. Pull Out the Skipping Rope
This can seem a little elementary school but it is a powerful weight loss exercise. Boxers, basketball players, and more will use skipping rope exercises into their regimen on a daily basis because they’re so effective.
For the most part, skipping exercises burn calories. Remember that you are constantly jumping. You’re working your heart and lungs considerably, without having to travel very far. If you get bored, there are so many ways that you can jump around the rope to keep yourself entertained and fit.
On top of this, you’re working your calf muscles. To keep a fast-paced jump, you need to remain on the balls of your feet. You only have to jump enough to let the rope past your feet, so you don’t run the risk of damaging muscles or tendons. Instead, your calves build muscle that you never expected!
#2. Start Boxing or Kickboxing
Boxing is another exercise to take up. You don’t need to take classes, as there are plenty of home DVD workouts to help you. The Wii Fit also includes a boxing workout that is fun to do and a group activity if you need it.
With any type of boxing, you’re building your heart and lung capacity. You will also build some discipline and endurance.
There’s no need to spare against someone else. It’s the actual movement that you want to do. Midair or with a punching bag is perfectly fine.
#1. Take Up Swimming
Even if you don’t know how to swim, this is an exercise that you want to consider. Take up swimming lessons to develop the skill and the muscles at the same time. If you do know how to swim, develop your technique and create plans to help burn more calories and build more muscle on a daily basis.
Swimming is excellent for those who want to lose weight, because it helps to take the pressure off your joints. The water makes you feel weight less, so you can push yourself more and have fun. It also burns every muscle in your body, toning everywhere!
If you don’t like the idea of swimming lengths, do aqua-aerobics instead.
It’s time to do the right type of exercises to lose weight. Opt for the six above and you will drop dresses sizes quickly.
